Services and How We Support Young People
Support for Parents and Carers
Base 51 has been working with young people for over 30 years, so you can trust us to provide a high level of support for young persons in your care.
We focus on early intervention, providing counselling, specialist trauma support, a youth club, art therapy, a LGBTQIA+ group and other mental wellbeing services.
Accessible Counselling for Young People
In our Counselling we work hard to have shorter waiting lists that other services so their mental health can be supported – we also understand that income can be a barrier to many who need support, so we offer free and subsided counselling to young people from households with low income.
Once you make a referral we’ll be in touch to organise an assessment where we’ll talk to the young person about their needs and also assess the household income to determine whether there will be a cost for sessions.
Referrals for the Base 51 counselling service are currently closed as we manage the waiting list. Please email counselling@base51.org.uk and we will alert you when it’s open again.
A Safe Space
Our Youth Club gives young people a safe space to go after school/college, helping to reduce social isolation, make friends outside of school and give them inspiration to grow. Youth clubs keep young people off the streets where they are vulnerable to gangs, exploitation and anti-social behaviour – giving them a somewhere to talk to trusted adults and expand their social groups.
LGBTQIA+ Group – Outburst
Outburst, our LGBTQIA+ group, is an inclusive place for young people in the LGBTQIA+ Community. Somewhere they can explore their feelings, talk to people who understand what they are going through, and meet likeminded young people. It’s a safe and inclusive space where they won’t feel judged.
Counselling and mental health support

“If someone was thinking about coming to Base 51, I’d say that it is a safe space for everyone where you can come and be yourself without the fear of being judged. It’s also a place where tons of support is available.”

“Counselling sounds weird because we don’t usually talk to strangers about yourself, but that’s what’s good! They don’t have a particular image of you. Being face to face and seeing that someone is understanding and listening helps.”
